Antonietta Collins
Antonietta Toni Gonzalez Collins is a Mexican American journalist. She is the host of SportsNation and serves as a SportsCenter anchor. She was hired by ESPN as a news anchor in 2016. She is the daughter of television reporter Maria Antonieta Collins. Antonietta Collins is bilingual and has been so since when she was nine years old. The ability to speak two languages allowed her to land her first position at Univision, Miami. She could work with national producers on programs like Nuestra Belleza Latina Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud Primer Impacto. Then she was promoted to an reporter at CBS St. Petersburg. CBS St. Petersburg affiliate in the following year. In 2009, she moved from Texas into Rio Grande Valley where she became a news correspondent on KNVO TV 48 Univision. Reporting on stories about trafficking in drugs and immigration on both sides of the border, she was an anchor for newscasts at 5 p.m. Spanish newscast a reporter and later anchor of the 9 p.m. newscast in English as well as another reporter for the 10 p.m. Spanish newscast. Her duties as an anchor for weather or sports were also frequently requested. Deportes 23 was Univision Dallas affiliate, where she was able to take on additional duties. She reported on the Major League Baseball ALDS ALCS World Series and Dallas Cowboys, NBA postseason, Finals FC Dallas as well the Dallas Stars. She was the producer of Univision 23 Accion Deportiva Extra as anchor. She also served as the sports anchor of Despierta America Deportes morning show. She held the same position in Primer Impacto magazine and Contacto Deportivo for the UniMas Network. Antonietta Collins' parents are born in Veracruz Mexico. She was born November 22 on the 22nd of October, 1985, in Mexico City. She has a sister. The family relocated to Miami after relocating to Mexico to the US. The couple divorced shortly thereafter and, in the year 1995, she got married to a naval architect named Fabio Fajardo. Fabio Fajardo died in 2006 of kidney cancer. On a trip Antonietta was staying at her sister's house in Canton Ohio. Her older Collins sister had just landed a new job. Antonietta was about to graduate from high school, but was already aware of the things she wanted to do. The campus was beautiful and provided the education she wanted. After graduation, she attended the university with a media studies major. The professor she had was Mark Bergmann, who managed WRMU FM and was part of her class, formed a lasting relationship with her. The professor encouraged her to believe in herself and was deeply moved by his enthusiasm for journalism.
